Manchester City forward Erling Haaland has been named the Football Journalists’ Association (FWA) Player of the Year.

Haaland has produced a fantastic season with his tally of goals in all competitions now 51. And he won 82% of the FWA vote, the biggest win percentage since the Premier League changed its name.

Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka finished second and Gunners teammate Martin Odegaard finished third. Man City’s Kevin De Bruyne finished fourth while Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford finished fifth. In total, 15 players received votes.

Haaland becomes the next Man City player to win the FWA award, which has been awarded since 1948, since defender Ruben Dias in the 2020/21 season.

Chelsea striker Sam Kerr became the first person to win the Women’s Player of the Year award for two consecutive years after an impressive season.

The Australian female player earned twice as many votes as England and Aston Villa star Rachel Daly. Lauren James of Chelsea finished third overall.

Sharing after learning about the award, Haaland said: “It is an honor to receive the award in my first season in England. I try every day to be the best I can and be recognized. This means a lot to me.”

“So far, I’ve enjoyed my time at Man City – my teammates are phenomenal, and they give me chances to score. I want to thank all of them, because I couldn’t win this award. without them”.

The Norwegian striker added: “I also owe a lot to Pep, the staff and the staff at Man City. Everyone has been very nice to me since I joined and I have never worked with experts.
