Manchester City has been enjoying a successful season so far, and the team’s former coach, Xavi, believes that his old mentor, Pep Guardiola, can lead the team to a historic treble this season.
City is currently leading the Premier League and has made it to the semi-finals of the Champions League, as well as the final of the FA Cup.
Xavi, who now coaches Barcelona, has expressed his admiration for Guardiola’s current team. “Man City are the best team in the world at the moment, that’s for sure,” he said. “They have the best coach and the football they play is worth learning.
Pep Guardiola and Man City won the treble this year, well deserved. They have a huge opportunity to do that and I believe they will.”
Manchester City has been in sensational form this season, winning 24 of their 32 Premier League matches and losing just two. They currently sit at the top of the table, one point ahead of second-placed Arsenal, who have played one game more. City’s run of form has coincided with a poor spell for the Gunners, who have failed to win any of their last four league matches.
In the Champions League, City faces defending champions Real Madrid in the semi-finals. Guardiola has won the competition twice before, with Barcelona in 2009 and 2011, and he will be looking to add to his collection with City this season. City has been impressive in Europe this season, winning seven of their 10 matches and scoring 21 goals in the process.
In addition to their league and European campaigns, City has also made it to the final of the FA Cup, where they will face Manchester United on June 3. City has been in dominant form in the competition so far, scoring 15 goals in their five matches and conceding just one.
If City were to win all three competitions, it would be a historic achievement. No English team has ever won the treble, although Manchester United came close in 1999 when they won the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League.
Guardiola achieved the feat with Barcelona in 2009 and will be hoping to repeat the feat with his current team.
Xavi’s comments will only add to the growing belief that City can go all the way this season. Guardiola’s team has been in irresistible form for much of the campaign, and their attacking play has been a joy to watch. With players like Kevin De Bruyne, Raheem Sterling, and Sergio Aguero in their ranks, City has the firepower to beat any team in the world.
Of course, there is still a lot of football to be played this season, and City will face some tough challenges in the coming weeks. Real Madrid will provide a stern test in the Champions League, while United will be desperate to upset their local rivals in the FA Cup final.
And with Arsenal breathing down their necks in the Premier League, City cannot afford to slip up in any of their remaining matches.
But if Guardiola can keep his team firing on all cylinders, there is no reason why City cannot make history this season. Xavi certainly believes they can, and it will be fascinating to see if his prediction comes true.
