Erling Haaland could break more records in the coming weeks, as City strive for the famous treble.
In the match between Man City and West Ham, Haaland scored his 35th goal in the 2022/23 Premier League. He officially surpassed the record of 34 goals a season of Alan Shearer and Andy Cole.
Before that, he broke many records such as becoming the youngest player to score 30 goals in the Champions League. So what other records could Haaland break in the coming weeks?
Most goals scored in a Champions League season
Haaland scored five goals in the Champions League group stage and another seven in the knockout stages, including five against RB Leipzig to send City into the quarter-finals.
The current record for Champions League goals in a single season belongs to Cristiano Ronaldo, who scored 17 goals in the 2013/14 season for Real Madrid. Haaland currently has 12 goals this season. Haaland has at least 2 more games left in the semi-final against Real Madrid to set a record.
Score the most goals in a single Champions League season for a Premier League club
Haaland only needs 1 more goal to break this record. Ruud van Nistelrooy currently holds this record after he scored 12 goals for Man United during the journey to the quarter-finals of the 2002/03 season.
Man City will face reigning European champions Real Madrid at the Bernabeu on May 9 in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final. And then on May 17, Pep Guardiola’s side will be hoping to secure a spot in the final against AC Milan or Inter at Istanbul’s Ataturk Olympic Stadium.
Score the most goals in a top-flight season in England in all competitions
Haaland has so far scored 51 goals in all competitions, but he will have to score 12 more in City’s remaining games if he is to break the record set by Dixie Dean.
Dean scored 63 goals in 41 games for Everton during the 1927/28 season – an achievement that has since been matched by no one. But Haaland can break it with 8 (would be 9 if they reach the Champions League final) games remaining in all competitions.
Scored against the most teams in a Premier League season
Haaland will have to score against Chelsea on May 21 and Brentford on May 28 if he wants to break this record.
The current record is 17 teams, set by Andy Cole, Alan Shearer, Ian Wright, Robin van Persie and Mohamed Salah, who have scored against all but two clubs in their respective seasons. .
Meanwhile, Haaland has just failed to score against Liverpool this season. And he missed one of the two games against The Kop because of injury.
Most hat-tricks in a season
Haaland has had four Premier League hat-tricks so far this season against Man United, Wolves, Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest.
But the great Alan Shearer was much more than that. In his first season with Newcastle in the English top flight, Shearer scored a hat-trick against West Ham, Tottenham, Coventry, Nottingham Forest and Bolton.
The Norwegian striker will need two hat-tricks in the next five games to break the record. Many would argue that this is not possible. But with Haaland, nothing is impossible.
