“He was a big fan of Manchester City,” Hodgson said. “He had a poster of Vincent Kompany on his wall and he always talked about playing for them one day.”

Haaland’s dream of playing for City may have seemed far-fetched when he was growing up, but he has since become one of the most sought-after players in world football.

After bursting onto the scene with Red Bull Salzburg in Austria, he earned a move to Borussia Dortmund in January 2020, where he has continued to score goals at an astonishing rate.

Despite his success in Germany, Haaland’s dream of playing for City has not gone away. In fact, there have been reports that the club is interested in signing him this summer, with manager Pep Guardiola said to be a big admirer of the young striker.

If Haaland does end up at City, it will be a dream come true for the Norwegian. He has always admired the club’s style of play and the way they develop young players, and he would relish the opportunity to work with Guardiola and learn from some of the best players in the world.
