The investigation centers around Galtier’s time at French club Nice, where he is accused of making racist and anti-Muslim comments earlier this year.

According to reports, an email from Nice’s former director of football, Julien Fournier, to the club’s owner, Ineos, allegedly revealed Galtier’s remarks regarding the number of black and Muslim players on the team. Fournier accused Galtier of expressing that there were “too many” players of these backgrounds in the team.

Coach Galtier vehemently denied the allegations, expressing deep hurt and taking legal action against Julien Fournier. A preliminary investigation into “discrimination on the basis of alleged race or religion” was initiated by Nice authorities, leading to Galtier’s recent detention for questioning.

PSG’s head of communications, Julien Maynard, acknowledged the seriousness of the allegations made against Galtier but affirmed the club’s full support for the coach during this investigation.

Details emerged from French broadcaster RMC Sport, revealing that Fournier, who had a contentious relationship with Galtier during their time together at Nice, had documented his conversation with the coach in a letter to Ineos sporting director Dave Brailsford.
