In a heartwarming story of unlikely companionship, three lion cubs, a tiger cub, and a spotted hyena cub have come together as a close-knit family after being abandoned by their mothers. These adorable cubs have found a safe haven at the Akwaaba Lodge in Rustenburg, South Africa, where they are defying nature’s odds and flourishing under the same roof.
A Second Chance at Life: When these five baby animals were rejected by their mothers, their chances of survival seemed bleak. However, fate had other plans for them. They now reside in the loving care of Layla Cajee, the owner of the four-star hotel.
Layla’s Dedication: Layla Cajee, who has nurtured the cubs from birth, shared her experience, saying, “They do squabble over food, and the dominant one – the tiger – will come and take her share first.
But I try to ensure that all the animals get the same amount and the same cut of meat to prevent them from fighting. After meal times, they usually cuddle up together and have a nap.”
A Unique Family Dynamic: Among the cubs, Bella the tiger, at five months old, holds the leadership role. The three lion cubs, named Delano, Romeo, and Maximus, are also five months old but tend to be more timid. The eldest in the group, Milika the hyena at six months, adds a mischievous touch to the motley crew.
Growing Up Together: These cubs share the same living enclosures and meal times, creating a bond that defies their different species. While they may squabble occasionally, they also display affection and camaraderie, often cuddling together after their meals.
The Road Ahead: In two years’ time, these cute and cuddly cubs will transform into formidable predators. At that point, they will be separated and housed in separate enclosures, each following their natural instincts and paths in the wild.
The story of these abandoned cubs is a testament to the power of care, love, and unity. Despite their diverse backgrounds and instincts, they have formed a unique family, highlighting the profound connections that can exist in the animal kingdom.
As they continue to grow and thrive under Layla’s watchful eye, they serve as a heartwarming reminder of the remarkable bonds that can transcend even the boundaries of species.
